Te manawa Atawhai catherine mcauley centre, reflects many layers of religious and bicultural symbols, design by hamish shaw.

“We carried the geometry of the ichthys arc through from the big moves in the chapel down to the details.” explains architect Hamish Shaw.” In history, this geometry is used to set up artworks – often Mary and Jesus are depicted in the form of an arc – and old cathedrals are set out this way too.”  This concept is carried through to the weathered steel cladding, manufactured and installed by The Architectural Roofing Company. The half-piped panels in various width are carefully set out to tie in with the overall design, while the perforated panels in front of the vents and custom flashings are witness of the dedication to detail from everyone involved.
